CEE Employers: Government
All three levels of government
(federal/state/local) employ Civil and Environmental Engineers. Each level
is separately addressed below.
Federal Government:
CEEs are mainly employed by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT), along
with, to a lesser extent, the Department of Energy (DOE). To find out more
about EPA, DOT and DOE and their job/career opportunities,
In terms of searching for jobs, the federal
government has established two comprehensive websites to do so:
-
USAJobs: Official one-stop source for Federal jobs and employment
information.
-
StudentJobs.gov: Official one-stop portal for
Federal employment opportunities
for students, whether in high school, college,
or graduate school.
State Government:
CEEs are mainly employed by state-level
equivalents to EPA and DOT. In that regard, the following webpages serve as
portals to those state-level agencies where you can then identify and
research specific job/career opportunities.
Local Government:
At the local (city/county/town/township) level,
CEEs are mainly employed within building/planning and public works
departments. In that regard, the following webpages serve as portals to
local government websites where you can then identify and research specific
job/career opportunities.
Note: The USA.gov listing is more comprehensive
(it includes towns and townships, along with cities and counties), while the
ICCMA listing conveniently separates cities from counties.
